We always heard, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Now a study suggests that eating a piece of low-calorie fruit immediately before a meal reduces calorie intake during the meal.

I got my flu shot last week. I wash my hands frequently, and I try to remember to keep my hands away from my mouth, nose and eyes. I’m trying to eat a healthy diet and get enough sleep (two things that are not always accomplished).
.
How about you?

UPDATE OCTOBER 23, 2007
Christophe sent a link to a page that has links to songs of Mauritius. I’ve copied a photo from that page. Click the picture of the women dancing, and look for song titles on the right side of the page.

Some one sent this link (in a comment on a previous post). I don’t understand the lyrics on the non-English songs, but I like the sound of this music. Commenter Christophe says this music is not from Mauritius. If you know what country it’s from, please tell!

Teddy Bear
c.2003 Deborah L. Hord
v1. A D E A
Teddy Bear, I don’t care what they say about me. You’re my friend ‘till the end. There’s no need to doubt me. If you think I would leave just because they tease me, You should know I won’t go. I know that you need me.
Chorus – D A E A
You have been my good friend. I have loved you dearly. As I play every day, I will keep you near me.
v2.
Teddy Bear, everywhere I will take you with me. Who can know where we’ll go, but we will be happy. You’re my friend, ‘till the end. I will always love you. When I play every day, I am thinking of you.
Chorus –
You have been my good friend. I have loved you dearly. As I play every day, I will keep you near me.
v1.
Teddy Bear, I don’t care what they say about me. You’re my friend ‘till the end. There’s no need to doubt me.Why the Dog Chases the Cat October 21, 2007

Let Go
c.2003 Deborah L. Hord
From very early childhood, there’s a phrase that all of us hear, “What will you be when you grow up?” We hear it year after year. And when we grow up, we know better. But, we ask the very same thing. “What will you be when you grow up? What will the future bring?” . We hear it often as children. It burns itself into our minds. And, when we’re adults we remember. It’s a phrase we can’t leave behind. Doctors and lawyers and firemen, policemen and mommies and dads, Nurses and teachers and cowboys, were those all the choices we had? . One thing that they never did tell us, yet oh so important to know, It’s important to plan as well as you can, but you also just have to let go. . From very early childhood, we’re asked what we’re going to be. That’s all well and good. I suppose that we should, but a big piece is missing for me. The focus is all on the title. Where’s the focus on who we become, Compassionate, caring, committed to sharing, tremendous respect for each one? . One thing that they never did tell us, yet oh so important to know, It’s important to plan as well as you can, but you also just have to let go. . There’s so much information we never will know, and so many things are beyond our control. It’s good to look forward and work out a plan, but much of what happens is out of our hands. . We’ve moved beyond our childhoods, yet most of us have said, “I don’t know what I’ll be when I grow up.” We still carry that thought in our heads.
And, we measure our worth by profession instead of by who we’ve become. We need to remember that being ourselves is the best way to be someone. . One thing that they never did tell us, yet oh so important to know, It’s important to plan as well as you can, but you also just have to let go. One thing that they never did tell us, yet oh so important to know, It’s important to plan as well as you can, but you also just have to let go.

This is very interesting. The Los Angeles Times has a homicide blog project to document the deaths of every person murdered in Los Angeles (average of 3 each day in poor neighborhoods). What a compassionate idea and action to give families a way to publicly acknowledge their loved ones and have support as they grieve for them.

c.2003 Deborah L. HordYou aren’t the only one who hurts.
You aren’t the only one who has a broken heart. Why do you act like I’m invincible? Does that absolve you from responsibility? You aren’t the only one who hurts. . You aren’t the only one who hurts. But, you’re the only one receiving special care. Do you think you have never hurt me? Do you think you don’t have to live responsibly? You aren’t the only one who hurts. . I made exceptions for you all along. I tried to cater to your needs. But, I have feelings just the same as you. Why do you not take care of me? I try to be as gentle as I can. I never want to cause you pain. But, there is one thing I can’t understand. Why do you never think of me? Why do you never think of me? Why do you never think of me? Why do you never think of me? . You aren’t the only one who hurts. You aren’t the only one with sadness in your heart. Do you think no one else has feelings?
If you would look at me, just look at me, you’d see You aren’t the only one who hurts. . You aren’t the only one who hurts. You aren’t the only one who hurts.
