They are not illegal, they are the best, the most courageous, and some of the finest people you will ever meet. They are risking everything for a small chance at being able to live in a decent human way.

See what else Minstrel Boy has to say.

*~~”The Weight of Nothing”~~*

.

“Tell me the weight of a snowflake,” a coalmouse asked a wild dove. “Nothing more than nothing,” the dove answered. “In that case I must tell you a marvelous story,” the coalmouse said.

.

“I sat on a fir branch close to the trunk when it began to snow. Not heavily, not in a raging blizzard. No, just like in a dream, without any violence at all.

.

Since I didn’t have anything better to do, I counted the snowflakes settling on the twigs and needles of my branch. Their number was exactly 3,471,952. When the next snowflake dropped onto the branch–nothing more than nothing — as you say – the branch broke off.”

.

Having said that, the coalmouse ran away.

.

The dove, since Noah’s time an authority on peace, thought about the story for a while. Finally, she said to herself, “Perhaps there is only one person’s voice lacking for peace to come to the world.

.

Today is Thanksgiving Day, a national holiday in the USA.

.

Visitors from other countries do not share this holiday. Even so, I’d like to invite every visitor to make today your own day for giving thanks for all that is good in your life.

.

It is very easy for all of us to see bad things happening all around, both personally and globally. Today, I invite you to join with me in noticing all that is good.

.

I also want to invite you to join with me in consciously choosing to live with gratitude while continuing to work to make our personal lives, our communities, our countries and our planet safer, healthier and more peaceful for us all.

.

I will be with some of my family for this holiday for the first time in years. This is one thing for which I am grateful.

[UPDATE November 22, 2007: This post began a few days ago when I read a quote by Archbishop Desmond Tutu on Pam's House Blend. Then, I read Kathy's post "Equality Begins At Home". Soon after that, Zoe Brain posted cartoons to illustrate the plight of transgendered individuals. Now today, Minstrel Boy has directed us to a history lesson on taxes and the role taxes have played in the history of this country and other world powers. I may just keep adding links to other sites. Check here for new links.]

A friend who writes screenplays sent me this link. She said,

If the writers don’t get what they are asking…they are doomed! People will not be able to make a living when–in the near future–DVD’s are replaced by downloads from cable and the internet. They get NO residuals from this now!.”

She said this explains what’s at stake in this writers’ strike.

JOY is a free mp3 download from Janis Ian. It’s lovely.

JOY copyright Janis Ian

.

I wish you roses in the spring,

fledglings on the wing,

fireflies that sing your name.

.

I wish you flowers in the grass,

memories that last,

shelter from the passing rain.

.

I wish you joy.

I wish you joy.

I wish you joy.

.

I hope the wind is at your back,

keeping you on track,

and that you never lack for love.

.

I hope you walk beside your heart,

even in the dark,

guided by the stars above.

.

I wish you love.

I wish you love.

I wish you love.

.

So, wherever you may roam,

out there on your own,

home is just a heart away.

.

I wish you joy.

I wish you joy.

I wish you joy.
