The Southern Poverty Law Center monitors hate groups in the USA.

Intelligence Report

Intelligence Report Hate crimes against perceived undocumented immigrants — and Latinos in general — are on the rise. Some of the more horrific crimes of recent years are examined.

Also in this issue: Skinheads turn on one of their own; FAIR is explored, due to its ties to bigotry and white supremacy; and the “ex-gay” movement continues to spread, leaving a trail of shattered lives in its wake.

Peterson Toscano‘uncharacteristically serious and undeniably poignant video’.

You don’t know this, but when Mom and Dad came back from that weekend, they were depressed. They couldn’t eat. A light went out of their eyes.

He asked his dad what he experienced in the program and he said,

They made it seem like we were to blame.

His mother died still believing she was somehow at fault.

“Professionals” told her she failed as a parent … It’s wrong. It’s cruel. It’s really awful … I’m thinking about her today.

The video on Good-As-You is linked from YouTube. The title is Parents and the Ex-Gay Movement. This is the text that accompanies the video on YouTube.

Ex-Gay survivor Peterson Toscano talks about the harm that came to him and his parents because of the Family & Friends weekend at the Love in Action residential program that tells people they can find freedom from homosexuality. Now openly gay, Peterson speaks out about the harm of reparative therapy and ex-gay ministries.

The oldest and greatest rock band in the world – meet The Zimmers and their amazing cover of The Who’s “My Generation”.
Lead singer Alf is 90 – it’s quite something when he sings “I hope I die before I get old”. And he’s not the oldest – there are 99 and 100-year-olds in the band!
The Zimmers will feature in a BBC TV documentary being aired in May 2007. Documentary-maker Tim Samuels has been all over Britain recruiting isolated and lonely old people – those who can’t leave their flats or who are stuck in rubbish care homes.

The song is released on 28.05.07 and coincides with the TV show ‘Power to the People’ which started it all! You can buy the CD from Tescos, Woolworths, HAV and Virgin Megastores as well as all good internet download sites

Even though I was not a big fan of Polaroid photography, I liked the darkroom developer black and white pictures, this seems a little sad. So many things are phased out when new technology takes over. My grandparents lived before automobiles, airplanes and television. Their great grandchildren have not known a world without cell phones, computers and digital cameras. I wonder what changes will occur in the next 50 or 100 years. (more…)

I agree with the quote posted here. Taking the time, and making the effort, to see through another’s eyes can make all the difference in the world. Read the entire post on The Moderate Voice.

I have observed that with over time most of us learn to adjust both our speech and our attitudes as we come to see the world through the eyes of others. When our empathy is obstructed by religious, racial, gender and nationalistic blinders and separations this process is slowed down considerably. Likewise when the separations are removed the process speeds up.
