The Charlotte schools actively considered allowing students an excused absence so they could stay home and not be “exposed” to the peaceful protest of the National Day of Silence. It is fortunate that the school board made the right choice and will not allow any excused absences. Even better, they have made sure all faculty and staff know that those observing the National Day of Silence are to be accorded the same rights as any other student led groups.
