Barack Obama is right on target when he talks about religion in the USA.

I am hopeful we can bridge the gap that exists and overcome the prejudices that all of us, to one degree or another, bring to the debate … No matter how religious they may be or not be, people are tired of seeing faith used as a tool to attack. They don’t want faith used to belittle, or to divide, because in the end that’s not how they think about faith in their own lives.

Where In The World Have I Been? Matt Has Been Dancing Around The World Since 2005!

.

I never knew about Matt’s dancing around the globe until I saw this video (from a link clicked on Towleroad). This is another one for the “I Wish I’d Thought Of That” category. What a totally cool plan.

.

Matt traveled around the world. StrideGum sponsored his trip (paid for it, I suppose!). And, someone shot video of him dancing everywhere he went. People from many of the countries he visited danced with him. This is definitely a smile-inducing and warm-spot-in-your-heart inducing video.

.

Watch it all the way through. You’ll be smiling and feeling happy inside by the time it’s over.

I want to be sure you see these stained glass suncatchers made in rainbow colors. I loved making them a couple of weeks ago. It was an experiment that turned out very well, and I am delighted with them. The angels provided another happy moment. There will be more angels in the days to come.

.

Enjoy!

Here are the candle vases I’ve made during this recent flurry of glass work. They’re all made with bevels, copper foil and solder.

.

There are two small vases and one large vase. The large one is not yet finished. It needs a base in it. In the photo, you’ll see the candle in a plastic lid, but I wanted to show the play of the light on the wooden table. So, I’m including the photo now.

In the last post, you saw photos of groups of stained glass items I made this week. All of these designs are ones I created this week. (All except the blue star. The star is not my design. All the rest are my designs.)

.

Here are some photos of individual pieces. I photographed most of them with the sky behind and a flash of light hitting them from the front. The flash showed the silver color of the solder, but it also made some of the glass look like it has white flecks on it. I’m posting these anyway, because overall, I’m pleased with how they look.

Since I can’t work, and I can’t go to school, I have a lot of time on my hands. This week, without the usual responsibilities of work and school, I had the opportunity to spend a week at Mom and Pop’s Stained Glass Camp.

.

There really is no such place, not that I know of, but it seems a fun way to describe a week visiting my parents. I had almost nothing to do other than eat, sleep, visit and work on stained glass pieces.

.

It was fun! Here’s what I did:

My non-weight-bearing and keep-your-foot-elevated accident was almost two weeks old. I had already spent two weeks lying in bed and sitting in chairs with my foot elevated. I had already spent two weeks trying to work something out with doctors and others-who-might-have-helped to find a way I could stay in school. All was for naught. I was out of work and out of school. I had even canceled an out-of-town trip (with a non-refundable airline ticket) that was scheduled for the immediate days after the accident.

.

Determined, as I am, to make the best of any less-than-anticipated situation, I decided to turn my attention to stained glass. I couldn’t work. I couldn’t go to school. But, I could sit with my foot up (not elevated leads to swelling). So, I got busy with the gluechip glass I bought last summer, and the tools and supplies I bought last spring, and I went to work.

.

Creating something is almost always my best solution for finding the good in a bad situation.

.

You’ve already seen the suncatchers I made in the week prior to June 1, 2008. The week before that, the one we’re visiting now, was the week of the return to glass. In that week, I made five stars of gluechip glass. I made two beveled candle holders (for tiny candles). And, I made four suncatchers of mirrored pieces. These are the glass items in the photos below.

.

I wanted to complete a blue water glass (stained glass) star. I had all the points prepared and ready to put together, but today just was not the day. Sometimes, it goes smoothly. Other times, it seems best to just let it be and move on (like some things in life).

.

So, I did what I knew I could do successfully today. I completed these sun catchers. I wanted to finish the star, too, but I am happy with these pieces.

So, after not trying to work with glass since last summer, I’m attempting to redeem this ‘lost’ time by working diligently on glass. I’ve spent hours and hours sitting at a table outside my house soldering pieces of glass together. Here are a few photos I took today (yesterday, Saturday May 31, 2008). More photos will (eventually) be over at DHStainedGlass.

This isn’t as funny to me as the Chocolate Easter Bunny Chat or the Government Warning (Don’t Swallow Chewing Gum!), but it’s worth a look. It might even make you want to learn how to use your digital photo editing program to see what alterations you can make in the family photos. Actually, it’s pretty funny. I wish I’d thought of it.
