I am SO glad that the comedy shows are making use of the current flood of material. This week, Saturday Night Live had ‘Part IV’ of the Katie Couric Interview With Sarah Palin. (Watch them both, the real interview, the SNL interview.) The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and SNL all bring us a fresh view of the news, a caricature of the candidates.

When I watch the interviews and the debates, it’s clear to me which of the candidates is more qualified to be in the highest office(s) in the land. But, those of us who believe intelligence and knowledge of current events and world affairs should be basic requirements for holding office are not the only ones who will be voting in this election.

It concerns me greatly that the same anti-women, anti-equality ‘base’ who (along with the vote tampering in Ohio and Florida, and the Supreme Court appointing) helped put the current nightmare in office is just as eager to push Sarah Palin into the role of President of the United States of America.

They don’t care that she is clearly UNQUALIFIED to be President of the United States of America. They care that she is against Roe-v-Wade and equal rights and protections under the law for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered persons. They are excited about those facts. They want Sarah Palin to be the President of the United States of America.

They never really liked John McCain. He was not far enough into their anti-women,anti-science, anti-health, anti-earth, anti-equality stance. Sarah Palin is their girl. It matters not that she knows next to nothing about anything she needs to know in order to be President of the United States of America. What they care about is that she will be sure to get them the Supreme Court Justices they need to undo all legal protection for women to make their own choices about their bodies, birth control and their lives, and all progress lgbt persons have made towards being able to live and love with equal protection under the law.

The relative who sends the political garbage I don’t want to read also sends religious superstious spam. It offends me that these people who call themselves Christians choose to live by superstition and fear and want to make their definition of Christianity the law of the land. (My understanding of Christ and Christianity involves love, service and caring for others, not trying to destroy the lives of others by imposing their particular not-Christian-at-all-but-calling-themselves-Christian-views on the rest of the world.)

They WANT John McCain to be elected President of the United States of America, because they believe (like the rest of us who DO NOT WANT John McCain to be elected President of the United States of America) that he will very likely die in office leaving Sarah Palin to become President of the United States of America.
They want Sarah Palin to become President of the United States of America, because they know she is every bit as extreme as they are. They know she can further their extremist religious agenda for this country. They want her in power as the President of the United States of America in order to move this country further towards being a theocracy (ruled by THEIR particular beliefs and prejudices, ones they want to make the law of the land by their own appointing of Supreme Court Justices).

I feel for Sarah Palin in these awkward interviews where she clearly has no idea what she’s talking about. She has no business being anywhere near the office of President of the United States.

I wish Sarah Palin no harm. I wish her no humiliation or embarrassment. I only wish she could find a way to bow out gracefully. This 23/6 post suggests the RNC will get rid of her soon, but won’t allow her to slip away so easily: Say Goodnight, Gracie. (With Apologies to Gracie Allen.) (23/6 generally puts a comedic spin on the news, but they make an interesting prediction in this post.)

My wish for Sarah Palin is that she be offered a safe way to return to her former life, saving face, avoiding humliation. This is unlikely, since the people who have the power to dump her as John McCain’s VP running mate were clearly not concerned with her (or her family’s) welfare when they lured her into the spotlight.
