Rejection By Parents
Her mom wrote about her on the website of the anti-gay group PFOX. They claim to be supporters of ‘ex-gays’, but they are not supporters of people who are gay. They are among those who believe ‘gay’ is a behavior, not a sexual orientation. From the stories on their site, I think there are probably many people who are trying to be ‘ex-gay’ who made a lot of bad choices and then called those poor decisions ‘the homosexual lifestyle’ rather than recognizing that they simply made poor choices.
Poor Decisions vs Loving Relationships
It’s a shame that sexual orientation is not yet a non-issue. If it were, then gay people could fall in love and have that love celebrated, and there would not be a ‘need’ for people who’ve been beaten down all their lives to come crawling back to their emotional abusers for ‘help’ in trying not to be who they are. I’m all for people making healthy decisions in life and love. I’m not for people being taught to hate themselves.
Back to Christine
Christine came out as gay. Then, she tried not to be gay and subjected herself to the tortures of the ‘ex-gay’ industry. Then, she realized how damaging that was. Now, she is accepting of herself and her sexuality. Unfortunately, her parents to do not accept her. Her mom recently wrote about her on the anti-gay PFOX web page.
Christine’s Response Was Generous
There is no doubt in my mind that Christine Bakke is a good person living an honest life. Christine’s response to things said about her by her mother on an anti-gay web page was generous. It would be difficult to respond with such a big heart to public disrespect by a family member. I have great respect for this young woman and plan to continue reading her words.
