I First Heard This Kind Of Sound On A Cher Dance Mix

It sounds kind of like a voice, but synthesized and warbly.  I never realized how it was done. (I still don’t really know, but now I suspect they use a clip of sound and convert it somehow. I wish I had access to that equipment and knew how to use it. It would be so much fun to do things like this project.)

I Hear Music In Everyday Things

I often hear the melodic nature and rhythms in everyday sounds. It’s fun that someone has taken something from C-SPAN, something as never-ending as one legislator after another making speeches, and turned it into music. I totally appreciate the creativity and imagination that went into creating this piece.

This Video Is Auto-Tune the News #6:

Michael Jackson. drugs. Palin.

That means I’m behind in discovering these creative people.  I definitely need to watch the others and see if they’re this funny. I’d love to be a part of one of their videos. I need to find people locally and do funny things like this.

Auto-Tune The News

Watch it here:

Auto-Tune the News #6: Michael Jackson. drugs. Palin.

Here’s the text from the youtube site. Watch it and laugh.

NG: Hey-ohhhh! Congress! Climate change bill! Let’s get our debate on–1,2,3

It is time to stand up and say
We get to choose
We get to choose
It’s one of the two
liberty or tyranny

EG: can we please choose something in between? mediocrity?
MG: chastity?
HW: puppetry?
OB: obesity?
JE: marijuanity? pretty please?!

MB: The underlying bill represents the tyranny of the government
It’s our choice, what will we choose today?
Will we choose liberty, or will we choose tyranny?

MG: it all depends–who gets to be the tyrant?
SG: I thought this bill was about the climate

NP: Just remember these 4 words
For what this legislation means
Jobs, jobs, jobs, and jobs
Let’s vote for jobs
CC: and jobs
NP: and jobs
CC: don’t forget about jobs

Speaker: Those in favor say “aye”.
Speaker: Those opposed, “no”.

Hell no! Hell no! Hell noooooooo!!
The fight that we have between the 2 sides of the aisle boils down to one word:
JB: freedom
CC: freedom!
JB: freedom
CC: freedom!
JB: freedom that will allow the American people to live their lives
hell no!
Nano Man: hell no!
JB: hell no!
Nano Man: hell no!
JB: hell noooooooo!
Nano Man: hell no!
That will allow America to flourish, allow jobs to flourish, and allow freedom to flourish!
hell noooooooo!
I’m not wired to operate under the same old politics as usual.
With this announcement that I’m not seeking re-election, I’ve determined that it’s best to transfer the authority of governor to Lieutenant Governor Parnell.

Hey, could she be pregnant?

EG: Pregnant with ideas bout how to run for president!

Interesting and perhaps successful strategy to win her the presidency.

MG: To win you gotta quit!
EG: To quit you gotta win!
MG: the chips are on the table –
WK: She’s really all in.
But it’s high risk.

The people who like her
Are still gonna like her
The people who have doubts about her
Are just gonna have the same doubts
EG: No doubt
JL: Same doubts
All: Same doubts!

What do you do if you have Tylenol and other medications with acetaminophen?

JE: I take a fistful of pills
and get busy mixin em in my gin

What about Vicodin and Percocet? Will they be banned ultimately?

JE: Not if I can help it!
You know it’s unconstitutional
To take away my God-given pharmaceuticals

BO: I have warned that one day
Michael Jackson would wake up dead
Wake up, wake up dead
Meredith, I had warned everyone–
SG: –He told you so
BO: –one day we’re going to have this experience
I feared this day
And here we are
Keith, people often die
for very strange reasons
They wake up dead
Wake up, wake up dead
EG: wakin up
MG: wakin up
BO: wakin up
KC: wakin up
EG: wakin up is a strange reason to diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie

Do you want to save yourself (Get Healthy) and save the earth, too?

Here’s another archived Pam Atherton show on ACloserLookRadio.com.

Fruits, Vegetables and Red Wrigglers

I’m a big fan of  fresh fruits and vegetables. I’m a huge fan of red wrigglers. 🙂 Some day, some long-in-the-future day when I have the time, I’ll find some photos of my compost worms (red wrigglers). They’re the coolest. (They’re also deceased, since the few I brought with me did not survive the transition when I moved back to North Carolina from Oklahoma, and the worm bin I left at my house there was destroyed by a person who was specifically instructed not to touch it. No blame to Okies there, he was there from another state, only there to do repairs on the house.)

Here’s what Pam Atherton had to say about her show about Losing Weight and Composting with Red Wrigglers. (You can listen to the show in the ACloserLookRadio archives.)

The Secret to Weight Loss… No Hydrogenated Oil, No High Fructose Corn Syrup and Lots of Red Wigglers!

Mary Ellen Psaltis clued us in to some good ways to start off the new year last week on A Closer Look. Joining us on New Year’s Day, Mary Ellen suggested we start each and every day off by writing down 5 things we are grateful for… but no repeats! She told us the story of how her gratitude journal started her and her husband on a journey toward making their dream come true: to start a dental clinic for children in Mexico .

A certified nutritionist and wellness counselor, Mary Ellen shared some secrets to regaining our thin-ness: Read labels and stay away from Hydrogenated Oil and High Fructose Corn Syrup. And start a recycling bin with some red wiggler worms! Listen to the show to find out why!

And finally… she reminded us to smile. Sometimes that makes all the difference in the world to the people around us. If you missed the show, you can still hear it in archive. Go to www.AchieveRadio.com/closer-look to find all our archived shows, or go to the show webstie www.ACloserLookRadio.com and check out the guest archive. You can get to any of their interviews from there are well. For more about Mary Ellen, go to www.ACloserLookRadio.com/psaltis.php

Scientific Research

This paper is about scientific research, and it’s probably a bit over my head. But, I like what the abstract says.

The Gossip Test

How do you figure out what you really like? Pay attention to what you just naturally talk about about.

The Boredom Principle

How do you figure out what you should definitely NOT do? Notice what bores you.

How easy is that? 😉

The Abstract

Crick and Watson gave complementary advice to the aspiring scientist based on the insight that to do your best work you need to make your greatest possible effort. Crick made the positive suggestion to work on the subject which most deeply interests you, the thing about which you spontaneously gossip – Crick termed this ‘the gossip test’. Watson made the negative suggestion of avoiding topics and activities that bore you – which I have termed ‘the boredom principle’. This is good advice because science is tough and the easy things have already been done. Solving the harder problems that remain requires a lot of effort.

Medical Hypotheses (the blog where I discovered these two terms)

In All Fairness …

I imagine this sort of abuse of passenger property has happened with every airline.

Even so,

There is no excuse for how his property was handled.

The Customer Is Always First

Well, we know this is not true with many companies.

What’s Different In This Story ….

The difference here is that the injured party decided to make his grievance public. I think he could very well change airline travel (vastly improve handling of bagage). Let’s hope so anyway!

A Child, a Hotel Room at the Beach, a Black &White TV

That’s how I remember it anyway. I was on vacation with my family. We were at the beach. My parents turned on the tv, and we sat on the ends of the beds and watched the moon landing. They made sure we knew we were watching history in the making.

Moon Landing 40th Anniversary (PHOTOS) (VIDEO)

Monday is the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11’s moon landing. Astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were the first men to ever walk on the moon — and the whole world watch this iconic moment in awe. Check out our tribute to the moon landing with this slideshow and the recently digitally remastered video of the lunar landing. (from Huffington Post)

One of the Best Men Who Was President in My Lifetime

The presidential record of Jimmy Carter will be debated for years. But, his humanity and goodness are not qualities anyone can dispute.  Jimmy Carter is a good man.

I Was Priviledged to See and Hear Him Speak Recently

My mom was attending a weekend conference. He was scheduled to speak near the end of it. I was fortunate enough to have a seat near the front of the room. It was a great priviledge to be there. He spoke then of his commitment to equality for all.

Jimmy Carter Has Taken A Stand For Equality

Jimmy Carter Leaves Church Over Treatment of Women

After more than 60 years together, Jimmy Carter has announced himself at odds with the Southern Baptist Church — and he’s decided it’s time they go their separate ways. Via Feministing, the former president called the decision “unavoidable” after church leaders prohibited women from being ordained and insisted women be “subservient to their husbands.”

Viewing Stained Glass Backlit By The Sun

I’ve wanted a way to look at stained glass pieces without having to wait for a sunny day to back light it.

Backlighting With A Light Box

Building a light box seemed like a good idea, but I wasn’t sure exactly what supplies I’d need.

Look On Google, Of Course!

I finally Googled it, and found a really easy description, complete with photos.

Jim Sutton’s Quick & Easy Light Box

Make Your Own Light Box

These are the simplest, clearest instructions I’ve found. It was probably the illustration that put this one at the top of my list. Make your own light box.
