RuPaul’s 2008 Christmas Card
BlackVoices.com obtained a copy of the gender bender’s “Holiday Card,” featuring him as President-elect Barack Obama and the future First Lady Michelle Obama.
“RuPaul celebrates the holidays and the history-making Obamas in a commemorative holiday card of presidential proportions,” a spokesperson said.
I enjoyed RuPaul as an actor, as a male counselor in an ex-gay reform camp, in But, I’m A Cheerleader. He’s a multifaceted performer. And, he played that role very well. (I’d link to clips of the movie, but it’s so much better if it all takes you by surprise.) It’s a campy take on “ex-gay reparation therapy” organizations. It makes use of stereotypes, pink and blue, and extremes. For me, that’s part of what made it so good. It’s satire and humor with a serious streak. The humor make the tragedy of the ex-gay movement watchable. (From what I’ve read, real ex-gay organizations are much more terrible than this one. ) Anyone thinking that “ex-gay” is even a legitimate concept could learn a thing or two from this movie. Well, if you insist, here’s a clip of the 1st 20 minutes of the movie. (RuPaul is Mike.)
